Influence of extended storage on fuel properties of methyl esters prepared from canola, palm, soybean and sunflower oils
نویسنده
چکیده
Fatty acid methyl esters prepared from canola, palm, soybean, and sunflower oils by homogenous basecatalyzed methanolysis were stored for 12 months at three constant temperatures ( 15, 22, and 40 C) and properties such as oxidative stability, acid value, kinematic viscosity, low temperature operability, and iodine value were periodically measured. Oxidative stability was significantly reduced upon extended storage and acid value as well as kinematic viscosity were increased by only small increments, with these effects more pronounced at elevated temperatures. Iodine value and low temperature operability were essentially unaffected by extended storage. Based on these findings, it is not recommended that acid value or kinematic viscosity be used as indicators of storage stability of biodiesel, nor is it recommended that iodine value be used as a predictor of oxidative stability or indicator of oxidative degradation. Moringa oleifera oil: a possible source of biodiesel.
Biodiesel is an alternative to petroleum-based conventional diesel fuel and is defined as the mono-alkyl esters of vegetable oils and animal fats. Biodiesel has been prepared from numerous vegetable oils, such as canola (rapeseed), cottonseed, palm, peanut, soybean and sunflower oils as well as a variety of less common oils. In this work, Moringa oleifera oil is evaluated for the first time as ...

Methyl and ethyl esters were prepared from camelina [Camelina sativa (L.) Crantz] oil by homogenous base-catalyzed transesterification for evaluation as biodiesel fuels. Camelina oil contained high percentages of linolenic (32.6 wt.%), linoleic (19.6 wt.%), and oleic (18.6 wt.%) acids. Consequently, camelina oil methyl and ethyl esters (CSME and CSEE) exhibited poor oxidative stabilities and hi...
متن کاملEffect of Different Oils on Quality of Deep-fried Dough Stick
Abstract—The aim of this study was to determine the effect of oils on chemical, physical, and sensory properties of deep-fried dough stick. Five kinds of vegetable oil which were used for addition and frying consist of: palm oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, rice bran oil, and canola oil. The results of this study showed that using different kinds of oil made significant difference in the qualit...
متن کاملA Comparative Study on the use of Butyl Esters of Soyabean and Sunflower Oils as Biodiesel Fuel for Compression Ignition Engine
To study the feasibility of using two edible plant oils as diesel substitute a comparative study was made. Oils were exacted from the seeds of soyabean (Glycine Max, Family: Leguminoceae) and sunflower(Helianthus annuus, Family: Asteraceae/Compositeae). Oils were esterified (butyl esters) before blending with pure diesel in the ratio of 10:90, 15:85, 20:80, and 25:75 by volume. Pure diesel was ...
